Le Golfe terrasseCrème de Cassis

They call it "the poor man's St. Tropez", but I hardly felt I was roughing it as I settled in for a couple of weeks in an apartment with the view of the port of Cassis, about a 20 minute train ride east of Marseille.

I'm not big on coastal villages that serve fish that aren't listed in my dictionary, but the compensating benefit is that any place with fisherman has to have cafés that open early... at least by European standards, which differ slightly from Seattle ones.

And after the Bar du Port, Le France and the Bar de la Marine opened, followed eventually by Monsieur Brun, with it's cadmium red tables and chairs and the blue deck chairs at Le Golfe.

Definitely, my kind of place.
